Ignition lock

  1. I purchased a complete set of locks from JK and got them all fitted fine. With exception to the ignition lock. As I'm no electrical dude I had the garage look whilst doing its MOT.

His comments were "it's the wrong one, the plastic bit all the wires solder into is different and as such this barrel won't fit.

As this plastic bit of the ignition is loose and the van cuts out from time to time I'd like to change it.

To save me exchanging the incorrect JK barrel for the correct one and then having to fix the plastic bit, I was thinking just get a new plastic bit soldered on to match the existing barrel and key.

Any idea where I would get one from to match please?

  2. Oops here's a picture of the new barrel.

  3. what year is your van?

  4. It's a 77.

I can see various types but they would suggest the ignition switch was from an earlier van possibly.

  5. That's the right barrel...

The white plastic section is that the switch or the plug? (plugs came in white and black)

  6. This is the switch

The sticky up tab on the top is where a small grub screw goes through and holds it securely into the column

  7. Yeh looks right. I don't wanna take it apart n break it.

I can't verify the sort of funny shape but having looked the loom is a set of spade connectors which plug into this white switch then the barrel slots down in from the top I guess.

Will attempt to fix it after van west lol

Ill try that part Paul. Cheers for ya help fella.

  8. Often as not it is the switch that is broken... but it also sounds like someone has made away with the plug that the spades live inside!!
