Both sitting with a nice gap between bump stops. Is there any way one of the splines broke and one side is just sitting a bit lower? I can live with it. I will just getter fatter to help it lean over the other way.
I can't quite make out your pictures but there should be a sort of cup for the bump rubber to land on. Have you got those. It looks like Zed has his missing, and one of mine has dropped off. It doesn't seem to be critical. Maybe the bang was the cup dropping off? Unlikely for the splines to break. You'll see why if you take the end cover off.
I've got both of mine, the pic was random google. Not at all uncommon to see they've fallen off though and it seems to make no difference. Maybe it would be more crucial if something did break and it relied on the stop to hold that corner up.
Looks fine to me. It wouldn't sit that high if (unlikely) the torsion bar splines were stripped. One side would've collapsed onto the bump stop.
If there is the same gap between the bump stops the bus cant be lower one side, can it? What about the front, same clearance on the bump stops each side?
I will have a look at front. But yes, a mystery on the rear bump stops height, although very relieved. I will change shocks but just because I have new ones. Loud bang might not be suspension related of course but not a backfire. I know that sound v well.
Perhaps you ran over a small fence or something which was inconveniently at headlamp hight! Would explain the noise and the broken headlamps! Or… sonic boom as you hit the sound barrier! Who knows…. Mystery this one!
I was waiting on answer for the headlight tbh. Can I nominate giant hornets or a newly 'tarmacked*' road. *You know - where they bang some tar on it, chuck a load of lose chippings on it and let everyone enjoy ruined paintwork and cracked windscreens for the next few days.
Are you sure it wasn't like that anyway , before you had the bang. Buses do tend to have a bias, and for that there is a precise procedure in the Bentley manual for working out how many inner and outer splines you turn the appropriate suspension torsion bar. I think the 22-23 inches is perfectly normal for a non lowered bus. I would look at the front suspension too , check the anti roll bar, as that does go bang quite loudly then just hangs there out of the way when it breaks.. The headlamp glass breakage OTOH might indicate you did hit something hard enough at the front to stress the glass in the lenses.. Look around the front of the bus underneath..
I hit a partridge once - that made a huge bang and quite a mess .... Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
Front end fine too. Sorry. Wasted everyone’s time but learned a lot about my new bus. Addictive aren’t they! Cab window seals next job.
