I went round a corner and something went bang

  1. First time post from new t2 owner. Sorry. This happened at a roundabout and now the offside rear of the bus has dropped a bit (22inch to wheel arch vs 23 on the other side). Then both headlights lenses broke on next journey. Is my suspension fubar?

Hi, why don't you look for something broken?

  3. thats not much information to go on. its common on old vehicles for the ride height to not match 100% side to side..? when you say something went bang, did you hit something? did something break (have you looked underneath the bus?) . you obviously drove it again, does it drive ok? any funny noises as you drive? does it drive straight?

not sure why you're connecting broken headlamps with suspension issues? confused..

Spring plate broken at the torsion bar end (saw one on Instagram earlier with that issue).

    rear torsion bar snapped

  7. Seems to drive fine and didn’t hit anything. It was just the way that both lenses went soon after together.

  9. Definitely nothing broken. Rusty but not broken. And suspension seems fine when I jump up and down on rear bumper.

So there was a bang as you went round a roundabout, one side of the rear suspension dropped an inch but you reckon nothing broke? You have to admit that sounds unlikely?

  11. It's not uncommon for the sides not to match up. My left hand drive westy has heavy cabinets down the left side and leans slightly in that direction. This can be adjusted on the splines. Not if the torsion tube is busted though.

  12. Fair comment. Torsion bar sounds possible if nothing visibly broken but would it not just sink onto wheel arches? Sorry. I am very new to this. Inherited bus from my dad. It has been untouched for a decade. Original everything.

No, mine broke as above and drove home fine (several miles maybe 5), if not a bit bumpy.

There are bump stops it could be sitting on if something gave way, these would stop it collapsing too far if something like the torsion bar did break. They hide behind the wheel.[IMG]

  16. That looks familiar. It would presumably be sitting on this all squashed up?

They don't squash that easily, but if you compare sides one may be above it's landing pad and one may be sitting hard on it.

  19. ^this. They're fairly chunky. Take a look underneath and compare. Possible that a rear tosion bar has snapped.

It could also have became lost. One of mine did. Put a new one on last year.
    Speed bumps are better, now.
