Brilliant, I saw Tull in 1980 at Manchester Apollo then again a few years ago, quite a shock when I realised the spindly bald guy who'd just come on stage was Ian Anderson not some support band
And your not hurting anyone whilst you do so Tread lightly and the world will show its true self and when you pass you will leave no hurt or damage All you will leave is inspiration and teaching you never meant to teach
If this poll was to go into the new year I would be in my 50th year and would then be in a minority group
(Warning getting all geeky here) So it appears the majority of this forum's age group, probably started out in the aircooled scene in the mid-late 80's when it went a bit mad, (like me) with Beetles as they were cheap to buy, easy to fix and usually their first cars ? Then the other variants became popular , you could not get a cheap Karmann Ghia anywhere but Notchbacks were a poor mans alternative ! Split vans were picking up in price whilst Bays were the unloved poormans alternative usually rusting in scrappers! Funny how things change? I presume as people got older had families running a Beetle was not practical or as fun as a van hence the shift to vans. As we know Splits leapt in price and had the knock on effect to push interest to the next in line - Bay vans of course, so these started to go a bit mad. As people have passed away and younger generations have come along they have a closer link to Bay's than Splits now and those same age group people in advertising use Bays as a vehicle in the background for adverts (although Beetles still seem to pop up). Splits are now the realm of richer people (unless the original bods kept theirs still) , T25s are picking up in value, and T4's have seen a rise in price again, especially since T5's have come on the scene? Mind you T5's dont appear to have the same respect the older ones have, probably due to the mechanical issues they suffer but the VW Van scene is very strong. Its actually spawned interest in other vans as campers so Citroen HY vans, Bedfords etc etc as an antidote to VW but you all knew this! In the early 90's the other side of VW (those funny cars with Radiators) took off too ! So probably in 20 years time when we are using the VW T97 Electro hover van, our vans will be behind glass cases next to Lambo's as artefacts of our age never to be used again ! As you were..... Long live the rusty Bay!
They were still flying them for real in my time plus Mustangs and all the other interesting stuff and more Lancasters than ever... and for good measure the Allies had just discovered Wolfsburg enough to bomb the factory. Scary isn't it
Mustangs eh - almost a Spitfire! - or at least the merlin engined ones were. Pleanty of em still flying i wager!
Age is just a number, mines a bit high but we are only here once so the age number means nothing, its life that's important so I intend to enjoy it. When we see the loss of young life on the tv in the past few days in India that is very upsetting and age means not a lot when this happens. Will there ever be world peace?
I've owned my Bay for longer than 25% of the members of the forum have been alive, if you believe the stats on here! I'm 69 next month. Tony
Well done mate we are in the same life club! I wonder if our car/van insurance goes sky high at 70yoa?
With 605 view and only 71 replies, maybe we are a modest bunch or there is a requirement for an additional box, being the ....... Too old to remember my age! box
We will see won't we! I am still getting over having to pay extra when I was young....when you are 18, the story is premiums go down when you're 21,........... by the time you were 21 its up to 25,... things seemed to get better by the time I was 30!! Old farts driving a 1600 Bus that is 0-55mph in a couple of minutes, can't be that a big risk!! Tony
