How long to warm her up?

  1. But mine is stock ;) stock for a US bus that is

  2. Didn't he live in San Fransisco? Maybe sensible to warm up for a couple of minutes if heading onto those steep hills. Shouldn't think there's much point here in Lincolnshire.

If it runs fine after a few seconds I wouldn't worry about it, it's getting on a bit a bet yer granny takes a few minutes in the morning until she ready for her sprint to the pension office :)

  4. Muir.
It amuses and bemuses me when people chose to follow the words of a writer over those from the people who designed, built and developed the product over those many years.

Never mind though, the only result would be more sales.

It reminds me of :- "yeah, fit an 009 dissy" (designed cheaper for stationary generator engines) "it will make your dub go faster"

Its sort of the mechanical equivalent of old wives tales and superstitions I guess.

Talking of which - one beauty I heard recently was a woman earnestly telling me "Never leave you clothes on the line at night, because the moonlight fades the colours". Priceless.

  5. Sorry for bemusing you Trikky 2 it was this site that recomended it to me?
As for a writer ,he was orginally a engineer who worked for Lockheed who opened his own garage specialising in VW's.

  6. "Specialising" :)

  7. Anyway John muir told me to leave it idling whilst rolling a fag, as I don't smoke I jump in and drive off :D

Mrs Moosey and Lord Congi like this.
  8. Muir also advocated disabling the choke and did not include any adjustment procedure in his book.
He was an engineer for lockheed until he dropped out

  9. I thought he was in the oil industry?

I wouldn't want to put anyone off buying Muir's book - everyone should have one, if only to colour the pictures in :) . It's a nice relic of the 60s/70s, like loon pants and "Keep on Truckin" t-shirts.

  10. I'd doubt it was a fag...o_O

  11. Ha yeah I was giving him the benefit of doubt

  12. i all the old beetle user manuals i used to have written by vw, it states there is no need to warm up the engine, only not to race the engine for the first few miles. i would think its good practice to idle it a bit then take it steady for a while. also what i do is after a run i let the motor idle a while to get rid of some of the heat before switching off. if you dont the engine will momentarily gets hotter before cooling in its own heat. by getting rid of some of it by idle it helps aid cooling.

Yes if you just pulled into the m-way services, but by the ime I wind my way through town and put it away it's cooled down enough.
