I've done that. More of a dull thud than a bang. :)
A friend shorted out a 24V one and nearly took his eye out.
I propose that shorting out is a bigger bang than grinder ignition and you have wasted your battery to a mild pop when you could have had a proper explosion.

  9. Stick a ctek on it;)

  10. Did you charge it off the mains?

  11. Ive seen batterys in landrovers swell to the point of explosion through the normal charging process from the alternator
Due to the vent getting blocked
Any more pressure and they split down the weakest side they are designed this way with a weak side im told
Im pretty sure lef has ignited a build up of gas through using an old style transformer charger

We all laugh and joke and brush to one side things like gas drop out vents for gas bottles and exterior venting of batterys untill somthing like this happens then we have a little panic about the battery and gas bottle chucked under the bed just so we can get to one weekend

  12. Jeez Lost, hope you re ok. Ant sign of ill effects get checked out pronto bud. We did motorvehicle tech at school, and the 1st thing they did was short a battery out with a jump lead. 5 seconds later,no cable, replaced by a heap of black smoke. Got our attention.
    Well spotted fritt

  13. yes ,it was on for two days ,I was actually cutting a piece of zinc for the fire in the house ,somehow the surround [made of wood]caught on fire... I never thought wood at least 20cm could actually turn black then ignite ,it was quite scarey cos I could not get to the fire without taking the hood off first  I told mrs lost en france to bring me a washing up bottle full of water so I could poke it through the holes to extinguish the fire ,she brought me this...

Good move making the inside of a chimney from wood. Live dangerously.

  17. Wood is quite well known for its combustable properties ;)...

Have you renewed your house insurance?

  18. I did exactly the same with a battery , went with a hell of a bang . Never built a chimney out of wood though !

  19. General combustion point of wood is 300°c, but it is also changes temp depending on what type of wood it is!!

  20. wait a minute ,the chard wood is part of the chimney lintel.....

    So technically not my fault.....:p

If I wrap zinc plate round it will it still burn?
