After a bit of work on the exchangers, I've got a reasonable amount of hot air coming out of the footwell vents in the cab, but moving the lever on the vertical pipe doesn't seem to result in much air reaching the demist vents. Is this the only selector in the system, or have I got something blocked or missing?
just noticed yours is a cross dresser, how many levers do you have 3 or 4? if 3 one does heat on off one up or down and the other cold flaps - if 4 then pass...... also if i recall you manually move the totem one on an early...... it could be that a cable isn't connected - start and run then play with flap and see?
Tape up the footwell vents and see if it helps move the air up - if not you could have a blockage - obviously open the totem first
Have you got the diverter valve under the cab floor? Is the totem pole connected to it? There should be two cables from the heat direction control, one to the diverter valve, one to the totem pole.
Will have to look at the cabling - there are 4 levers, as per early. The totem has a small lever half way up moved manually, not a cable connection.
Yours is like mine - a lever on the side, not cable operated. It should divert all the air one way or the other or a mix if partially moved. It sounds like some restriction is preventing full movement - perhaps something fell down the dash vent 20 years ago... You won't want to here this as it's all painted, but you can get the totem pole off for a look.
Is there a knob under the drivers seat? If so, it might be that you're partially diverting warm air into the cargo area as it controls the diverter that sits in the middle cross-member. It could also be as zed said a blockage in the pipe, or it could just be the drop in pressure as it expands out to the vents.
Didn't think of that. I checked the diverter position was right then blocked off the air oulet for the rear for good measure.
I used to try to fix the diverter if it was rusty, but now I swap it for a bit of pipe if it's too bad. Save as much precious air pressure as possible
I'll drag my sorry arse down the garden in a minute and photo the lever in max up/down positions, that should help.
I find that paperwork is best left in a big pile on the side of the table until it all falls off and into the bin.
That's how I treat most of it, but there are some things there's no getting away from. I try and hit this stuff all in one go.
That's the lever I've got. Will try it out at greater speed so there's more air flow and see if I can detect heat on the dash vents.
