Hole in exchanger

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by steveagain, Sep 27, 2012.

  1. Noticed a hole in /on one of the heat exchangers, anyone have op. re weather it"s a job that could be brazed ?

  2. hole where?? got a pic?

  3. Cant get pics up i"m afraid , i"m using library comp. hole is on the formost part,as it curves upwards to adjoin other pipework , it "looks" like it"s been worn thru? the other pipe is not visibly damaged thou perhaps it is on it"s last legs too! if suggest new rather than repair , any experience on the good ones to purchase ?(get wot u pay 4 ?) ta for any advice

  4. not sure if you have a type one or four? When I was looking into it for my type 1 the original heat exchangers are much better at providing heat than most of the repros, though I did find some that looked very much like the same construction as originals on aircooled.net,
Main point is if yours are originals it is worth trying to repair them, exhaust bandage is simplest method

  5. heah cheers mate ,i"d forgot about exhaust bandages , i will try that , my heat system is well good ive got a fan thingy fitted at FRONT of bus (under belly pan) which pulls any hot air forward/upward, mine bus is a 71 (august) bay, thou ive had so many people tell me otherwise due to my running a "RAT" perhaps? i.e. if a part fits and works i am a happy camper !

  6. I'd stick a carbon monoxide detector in the cab if you dont already have one, particularly if your pulling air with a fan, any slight leaks from the exhaust side will be magnified

  7. good idea mate , cheers , i"ll do that

definately keep the original ones buddy, think its to do with the fins inside or something. the repro ones just arent as good!
