Hi volks, 1978 van The high beam indicator light on the dash is reversed, it's illuminated on dip. I'm hoping that its just a crossed connection somewhere. Could some kind soul suggest the obvious places to look? Regards Banjoblue
Is this a recent thing or has it always been like that? Wires just don't swap themselves over. I had an issue with the high beam and found it to be the earth wire on the back of the instrument cluster (brown wire) which had come off...
Ok needs a look behind the dah then, be careful its easy to touch live wires to earth behind there...
the dash bulb gets its feed direct from fuse 5 witch gets its feed from the switch Check the blue/white wire from the warning light goes to fuse 5 and that the white wire that is also on fuse 5 and 6 goes to the main side of the headlight bulb. You may find the blue/white has been put on the yellow of fuse 3 witch is the dip
That is not how the stalk works... it's a switching/latching relay... all the flasher stalk does is supply the earth feed to the relay to switch it... one earth pulse for main, another for dip!! This^^
Thanks for replies folks and sorry for delay in acknowledging. Turns out that a po had bridged the headlights. Snipped out the bulb clips and put non-standard bulbs in. They were held in place solely by the rubber dust covers. No wonder they wouldn't adjust! New headlights fixed the problem. The mystery is how it passed the mot the last three years!
Helo there. Seem to have the same problem (have recently changed headlights from blue lhd ones) & am wondering if it can be to do with putting in halogen bulbs? Can I simply swap the high & dipped beam wires? Cheers
Not unless you but the bulbs ito the units upside down - if the dip/high was the right way round before, it still will be otherwise.
Or maybe you have the 3 screw rim type, took both off together and fitted them back on the wrong side. Check the writing on the lens/beam pattern bit is the right way up.
