  1. Iam having a bad day

Just had windscreen fitters round after i could not manage to get front screen in and they cant either!!!!

Now van has been in a bump many years ago and the last time the screen was put in the people struggled. What the fitters are sayin is the window seal is. Rubbish.

No disrespect meant its a jk one :(

Can anyone reccomend the best front screen seal pls, the fitters said the rubber on the jk one too soft and poor quality in general,

    Grrrrrrf

JK sell good and bad. Did you buy the cheaper one?

  4. Baught the complete window seal kit so assuming budget one?

  5. Use lots of fairy liquid and warm the seal up in a bucket of hot water before (surely the fitters should be able to do it being proffesionals???) o_O

Personally I wouldn't use fairy as its got salt in.

  7. JK ones in the kit didn't used to fit, We had a customer replace his in our workshop and he ended up cracking the screen trying to get it in. I believe it was to short.

  10. WHY WHY WHY do companies sell crap like this!! Sorry for the rant but its putting me behind i was planning on painting and sealing the shell before the rain hits on friday:(

  11. dont Bin it - send it back to JK and get a refund! Not fit for purpose! Of chop it up and use it for something else, rubber is always useful for other things (no sniggers at the back)

  12. It's the same with any car parts I'm afraid.... mini's, landrovers vw's all have the people out to rob you. I always buy the expensive stuff when it comes to windows, you dont want to be doing it again in a couple of years when the rubbers gone dry and cracked. Britpart landrover windscreen seal lasted 8 months before it perished... Genuine one at double the money lasted 6 years so far.

I'm not sure JK are "out to rob you" to be honest.

Describe how they were trying to fit it please ref string and loops, top/bottom etc. Sometimes it is blummin hard, but I would have thought a soft rubber that they were complaining about would make it easier rather than harder. I guess they broke it then human nature took over and they looked for something to blame. :)

  18. Std cord technigue ect it kept popping out on top left or top right side in the end there was about 1 and 1/4 inch clearance in the top right hand corner with the glass sticking out of the frame. Like i say i know the van was in a Bash many years ago and the window frame is a bit out but it came out and went in twice before. The seal did seam a bit narrow if iam honest compared to the old one:(

Did they start top and bottom at the same time?
It's quite normal for the sides to stick out until the last bit, the trick is to get it perfectly central and get top AND bottom going together. If you rest it on the bottom then try and get the top in, no chance. You can batter old toughened ones in. I've stood/jumped on them hands against the wall while someone did the string, but laminated crack if you treat them like this.

If you have the glass still, prop it it place without the seal, wedge some cardboard underneath to even the gaps and have a look. There should be about 4-5mm gap top and bottom. If you have this much it'll fit. less is going to be trickier. Glass cleaner is the best lubricant if you must, but I do them dry myself so they can't keep popping back out!
