If as you say you could do it illegally and it's a means to an end I'd be doing it, time is not on your side

  2. Just having a thought,i remember at some point I found a web page on Facebook I think where people put there stolen campers on.This then got shared by people on social media and the campers where quite often found.I know your case is different but might be worth a go.Never underestimate the power of social media.

  3. True, though that would be my last resort!!

    Thanks for your comments anyhow.

  4. Yes, that sounds plausible, I'll give it a go.

    Many thanks.

  5. Wouldnt you lend it them for free for a little while???

  6. Oh absolutely .....but Ive owned my 73 westy for 25 years and if the first owners wanted to buy it back it would take a massive sum ....

  8. I think what you are wanting is unrealistic and for emotional reasons only. Even if you do manage to track down the old van, you may not get a pleasant reception from the current owner. You should put yourself in their shoes. Would you want a stranger knocking on your door asking about the van?

From what you know so far, it seems the vehicle is out of use and may not be a runner. You have tried and drawn a blank. Leave it now as you seem to be obsessive and even thinking of acting illegally which may well get you into serious trouble, for what?

Be sensible and just hire one like it, as a nice gesture to old memories.

I'd say go for it whatever as long as you post up the results on here :p

True but if it's off the road being used as a chicken shed money talks...
There is also the option it's off road being restored I suppose...

Did you not say to me only 1 week ago "if this wasn't my dads I'd bin it off" sentimental attachment is a bind, I'm glad I don't overly get attached to vehicles, although I have owned my 1st landrover twice and regret selling it.... Plus it's sorn.... Anyone know where RPY393G is?

Yes, because I can't seem to make time to use it - I'm not disappointed with it as such, more me.

I'm referring to the 27 years in between of looking for it, a placebo for that exact van would never do.

I've always stated that I'm not a huge VW 'fan', if he'd bought a Toyota I'd own that instead.

The benefit of it being a VW is the cachet makes it an OK investment, easier to get parts, better supported, heartless yet true.
