Help!! Gearbox mount bolt.

  1. Away in Norfolk in my van and had a lovely day in the broads. About 2 miles from the campsite the shifter starts scraping between gears had a look underneath and found this which looks wrong to me. What have I done/lost?

  2. From memory I think you've just lost a bolt. There should be two where you now only have one!

  3. ^ as above ^ The bolt itself is an M10 high tensile though to get you home anything would do, high tensile or not. Heritage amongst others stock them.

  4. yeah, you should have a bolt there, replace it quick! I don't think that would cause the problem you describe though, it looks like the 'box is still held in position. Do you mean that the gears grind when changing gear? If so, it could be a worn clutch or a clutch cable stretching possibly.

  5. No it's the shifter rod you can see where it's scraping. I think the gearbox has moved down slightly and this is scraping on part of the chassis.

  6. Borrowed a trolley jack from someone on the site who has an prototype bay. Lifted the gearbox and adjusted the gearbox mount and tightened the remaining bolt. Scraping noise when changing gear has stopped however I'm still a bolt missing.

I presume i better not drive anywhere with it in its current state.

Earlies have a different mount so no nicking bolts. ;)

Halfords will have um on the shelf I think, or B&Q etc, if you have tightened the other one a trip down the road to get a bolt is unlikely to be a problem

Mine fell right off once. It clonks every time you accelerate/decelerate...
What Davidoft says and unless it's lowered you don't need a jack. Despite how it looks the gearbox won't fall out!

  12. How long are you at the campsite?
I can post you a bolt tmw so you can enjoy your hollibobs but i will need it back once pauls finished my bus

  13. Cheers para but I've got to be off tomorrow. Plan is in place so I will be alright.
