  1. Hi im Jo, my husband and i recently purchased Bluebell (out little girl named her) she is a 1977 bay and needs some work but we love her already. My hubby (Andy) has always loved them and wanted one and we have been to quite a few shows so this year we took the plunge. Andy is a mechanic but certainly does not claim to be an expert on these so we will have lots of questions. Starting with what type she is. We bought her as a Westfalia but we dont think she is as for a start she has a Dormobile roof but is she a Dormobile or something else with a Dormobile roof. She was imported so there are not many details on the log book, she is left hand drive and her interior had been ripped out by previous owners. I have attempted to upload some pics but i am struggling so will have to do it when Andy is home later.

    Welcome aboard guys :D

Its definately not a Westfalia you have - if you look in my siggie pic, thats a westy roof - it looks like a Dormobile

  5. Welcome. Look at it this way. It's not as important as what she was, but what she will become! What are you plans for her? If your other half is a mechanic, she's in good hands.

  9. Welcome to the club and the land of VW vans. :)

  10. Welcome, our van has a westy roof but she didn't have any interior when we bought her so we fitted a bed & rear seatbelts threw the kids & some stuff in & went camping :D We have since added some home made storage but have all the cooking gear from our tenting years so we just chuck all that in when we go away & it works fine for us

Its great having a blank canvas as you can pretty much do what you like to suit your needs & you will finds loads of info & ideas on here to help you along the way, everyone is very helpful so if there is anything you need to ask because your unsure or you just require clarification there is always someone willing to assist so don't be shy ;)

  11. Yeah looks like an original dormobile as the roofs quite far up so you can get to the cooker under the passenger seat. (people who re-fit them on normally fit them central as they dont have the cooker under the seat.)
    Welcome as well

  12. Welcome...nice roof :)

    Lots of pictures please.

  16. Welcome aboard :)
Just to add to the model confusion...Dormobile did supply roofs and cookers to Westfalia when they first started production but I think that arrangement ended in the mid 70s, however having had enquiries in the past, from Germany, for roof bits I suspect quite a few ended up on later bays long after the original vehicles became razor blades.
