Good evening folks, just wanted to say hello to you all as a newcomer to the world of late bays. I picked up my first last week, and while it hasn't been a great start to our time together I'm looking forward to the long road ahead. I have a feeling you will see a lot of me in the mech tech section
@JamesLey fan belt snapped, replaced, that one came off, checked if it was correct size, ordered larger replacement as it seemed the original was too small, larger one is too big!
I had this happen to me a few months after I bought mine, well done for spotting it quickly as I very nearly boiled my engine when it happened. What engine do you have? Try and get the V style belt if you can.
It's a 2 litre engine, which by all accounts should take a 960mm belt but it's massive. No tension at all. It had 913mm on originally which was very tight getting the replacement on with the alternator all the way to the left, which is why I thought a bigger belt would be a better fit. Needless to say I'm riding that learning curve.
Good evening from Cheshire, nice DOKA , whereabouts are you? Oh and more pictures please, one of the alternator pulley might be useful.
Thanks for the warm welcome all. Im in Co. Durham @Flakey. I'll stick a pic up as soon as I can get my phone to work
Not sure if you can tell much, but here it is. Maybe I should start a thread for this in the Mech section
Its a type 4 motor, on the alternator theres an elongated black plastic cover..behind that a bolt, undo said bolt and slide the alternator right to take up the slack & make it taught..tighten the bolt back up and check for the correct tension. Replace the black cover ** just noticed you haven't got the cover, the elongated slot is showing, the bolt is visible
@MorkC68 the alternator is all the way to the right there, and the belt it nowhere near tight. There wasn't a cover on the bolt. There is a bolt on the bottom of the alternator which it seems to pivot on. I had to loosen both to be able to move it. With the 913mm belt I had to pretty much force it on with the alternator all the way to the left, but could then push the alternator right (about an inch) with what seemed to be the right tension and lock it in place. I'm not sure if it was too tight or that both bolts were tightened properly which made it come off. It's a bit confusing to be honest. To my unexperienced eye I need a belt in between 913 and 960 so that it goes on easily with the alternator all the way to the left, but gets the correct tension when pushed to the right (I'm assuming I shouldn't need to push it all the way) Thanks to everyone, and dokas do indeed rule, although this one is being pushed towards abdication at the minute
@Terrordales is that oddball in your avatar? That's what I wanted to call my van, but the family have decided it is "The General"
