heavy throttle pedal

  1. so at the weekend I had to head over to Godalming to puck upi a load of stuff from my flat that I'm renting out. due to the size of the stuff, I had to take the pickup. it's a good 160 mile round trip. I kept a steady 55mph all of the way in the slipstream of trucks. but one thing i did notice was that the revs would drop really low at junctions, not stalling but lower than they would be normaly after a bit of sitting at the lights this would slowly pick up. I'm guessing that this might be a sticking mechanical advance or something?

the next issue I noticed was that the throttle seemed really heavy and notchy. it's almost like something was binding. I was on the motor way at the M25/a3 junction and it meant that I had to push the pedal fairly hard to get it to do anything. this also settled out when I got to the other end and was driving in town.... carb icing?? the carbs are twin weber ict's on short manifolds.

    Any ideas would be welcome

    :)

  2. Throttle cable fraying and on its way out would give you a heavy pedal!!

As for the low revs, check the advance on the dizzy... The oil spot under the rotor arm always gets missed at service time :)

  3. Look at the pedal linkage. The cranked rod that joins the pedal to the cable could have moved and then the pedal gets sticky.

  4. Cheers Guys, I'll have a look. Ive got a spare cable in the van so I might just change it to eliminate stuff. I was chuffed with the fuel consumption though. brimmed it at the start and filled it up back in southend and it used £35. Obviously not an accurate measurment but it's not bad for 2ltr flat fronted steel box

  5. I`d go for failing throttle cable or dry / worn linkages .
Mine got to the point where i had to hook my toes under the pedal and lift it back up as i slowed down ....
Turned out to be a knackered hinge on the pedal, so down to B&Q for a gate hinge - 10 minutes with the mig and fully sorted

Many would frown at this fix but i always go for a quick and easy option - more than one way to skin a cat!!
(and it`s still going strong ...)

    :hattip:

:) B&Q quality trumps 'German Quality' on this occasion - see - not everything from China is crap~!

  7. Buttys Bits have replacement throttle kits. Top quality too.

  8. I'd suggest you take a look at the cross linkage between the carbs.....'notchiness' could be cable rubbing or something at the pedal end but I'd also check the heim joints at the carb end

  9. Heres another thumbs up for Buttys bits.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

my spring made my throttle very heavy someone had fitted a heavy duty one but it had no problems returning.

  12. He's more into the the split screen scene doe a lot on the ssvc. He safari seals are excellent when I bought my safari windows from creative fitted them with the supplied seals and they leaked like a sieve, fitted buttys and I've been out in some right old storms and the majority of the time it's been leak free, if your driving and the wind and rain is blowing into the windscreen then I might get the odd dribble from the window not me. Whereas before I used to have to put a towel on my knees.
One off my next jobs when I put my beam back on is to get one off his throttle peddle kits.

  13. It's great when someone spots a niche and improves on the usual aftermarket carp we're forced to buy....Hooky's panels is another good example

  14. I think quite a few off his bits he has tried out on his and his friends vans first. The throttle linkage he had developed himself and on the ssvc they go like hot cakes and gets great reviews.

  15. Nowt for a late bay though:(
