Headlights don't flash unless headlights are on ....

Mines a '74 and doesn't flash either..... Something else to add to the list of things to look at!

Did you see that TV programme on dogging a few weeks back, I stumbled upon it by accident when flicking through the channels one evening! It wasn't quite what I thought dogging was

 

76 and no flasher. It's light on/lights off for me.

I bet I'm the only person here to have a floor-mounted dipped/full beam footswitch.

 

I bet you're not! Mine even has a little Moon Eyes 'foot' on it.

The footswitch is a Beetle thing isn't it? Very satisfying to use. The headlight beam points in much the same direction regardless but it's nice to make the blue dash light come on.

EDIT - just looked on eBay, the floorswitch was common to Beetles and Splits.

VW, the only vehicle where you have to get out and go round to see if the headlights are on. Even at night!

I had this issue, and stumbled across this diagram by a helpful guy called Nigel Askeet who has apparently copyrighted this, so I might have to remove it. (but thanks Nige )

My five pin relay had been replaced with a golf one, looked similar, but the vital pin wasn't connected. The correct relay is £20.... must be full of diamonds

 

Lates: high beam flashes with ignition on or off, also with sidelights on. Turn the headlights on, and high beam latches.
