Am i correct in thinking you pull on the main beam stalk and the relay latches on full beam and when you pull it again it unlatches?

    Just to be sad

Inside there is a spring leaver stuck on the top and when the coil is energised this pushes a leaver arm to latch on its all a bit crude really
The spring leaver gets bent so it does not hit the leaver in the right place some time you can bend it back.

The new ones are i bit pants so if you need one try and get a old one as it has more metal inside.

Will sick one in the post should be with you Saturday we cant have you failing that MOT

  4. Cheers matty your a star dude

Ive had mine apart and it seems the windings on the electromagnet have broken down so it wont energise

I fitted it with the case removed and when i manually move the latch i get full beam at the headlamps and the dash light illuminates

So if its not just the relay thats goosed then ive either a wiring fault between the relay and stalk or the stalk itself is goosed

Well thats the way my heads figured it our but my brains a bit fuzzy today

  5. Tried to get one from my local automotive electrical specialists and he said as far as he is aware its a vw fitment only thing.
He could get a Durite made one for nearly £30.

Got one from the cool air for £15. As long as it lasts till I mot and flog the van that will do me.

  6. Spoke to big rich on the phone today and cool air have non left in stock and have a waiting time

As far as i can tell most suppliers are in the same posistion

assuming that the main beam doesnt have to stay latched on, it just has to work then as a temperary measure you could bypass the relay by connecting the live feed from the stalk straight to the main beam, as long as you only need to flash it to show it works etc you should have a problem with the wire guage
