Has anyone used a live-in pet sitter?

we are off to Spain for two weeks in October and Sarah doesn't want to put the cat in a cattery. We normally ask people to come in and feed Peggy, the cat, but not for a such long time.

We used to have 3 cats but one went missing and one got run over when we were away other times so don't want to lose this one too. :)

Can't you take her to the farm?

That's a good plan :). Problem is Sarah's mum isn't keen on her being in the house, she's worried about tripping over her (and she sometimes forgets to feed her!)

  4. Do you have neighbours around you who know the cat. Perhaps you could pay someone around you to keep an eye out and feed the cat. Do you have a cat flap so the cat can get out and about .

There are people out there who have a business caring for cats and dogs at home.

One of my neighbours have gone away for 2 weeks in their motor home and a friend has come to stay and look after their cat as well. The cat seems perfectly happy.

  5. I see your point, we have a couple of cats and when each of them came on board and joined our team, our initial briefing explained that although whenever possible we would spoil and pamper them to within an inch of their lives. There would be times when they would have to go into kennels. Although this is a time of abject misery for a cat, in the big scheme of things it is for a relatively short time, we get piece of mind and they know that they are safe and secure and won't be run over, kidnapped or killed by a rampaging fox.

  7. Yes, catteries do a good job and have a responsibility to look after their 'residents', but they are pretty much confined. Need to book then, as October is not far off.

  8. Do you know a young ish person who still lives with their family, who would like a break and would house / cat sit for you?

I could pop in and feed Peggy, but couldn't offer a 24hr service i'm afraid

Tbh I would put her in a cattery as at least I know she will be safe, however..... We did book her and Sheba (RIP) into a cattery once, got the cages out to take them..... And Sarah couldn't face it! There's no chance now there's only Peggy left! Blooming student nephews/nieces are rather unhelpfully got jobs

We can pay some one to come 2x a day but we are worried that the longer we are away that Peggy will come looking for us. Also she has a habit even now of running across the road we live on, cars or no cars

Cheers Paul, unfortunately due to our not so young age, most of our nephews/nieces and friends kids are already grown up and left home!

  12. you will have to find an older person who is so annoyed with their partner that they fancy a two week break then!

no family members you can let live in your house? we had one of lu's daughters stop at ours once to dog sit.
as pure coincidence we're camping this weekend without the lab, my brother can't have a dog in his house but is allowed for odd weekends so he's now official step dog daddy for when we want to go camping and not take the big dog - we're still taking the yorkie 'cos she is tiny and no hassle, i'm going to miss having the lab with us in a way but the lack of doghair and snoring/farting in the van will be a change.

  18. There is no however.
Just bung her in a cattery, forget about her for the week (you know she'll be 100% safe)
and then make a big fuss of her when you get back.
You're about to spend a fortnights holiday worrying about your cat - it's a mistake.
