Yeah, thanks. Not too worried if it dosnt last that long. I can’t imagine that if I bought a big standard cheap one, that I wouldn’t ‘modify’ it to make it stronger with extra ropes, tie down straps, tarps, etc. As long as I am out of the weather when I’m working on the van. Most of the work will be the underside, anyway. I have power on the outside of my garden shed, which will only be a few metres away from it. Just wondering on the height of these things, and can I drive into it with a pop too, or will I have to build it around the van in situ.

You build the roof part first and then put the roof cover on securing it to the frame by small bungee cords. The end sections are also attached to the apex (you won’t reach the top without a ladder if you don’t) before the 6 legs are put on so as to raise it. You can then fit the 4 side pieces (that invariably have windows in) followed by securing the ends in place. Due to the size of the apex if you drive the van inside before tying all the bungee cords (holding the canvas/PVC up) it will fit/drive in easily.

I would advise buying the ground bars as they help to secure the bottom of the sides so making it more rigid.

Ground bars? What are they? Do they just attach to the feet along the whole length?

I’m currently securing mine down as some serious gusts are forecast.

The sides and doors/entrances are laced together as the material,is too thick for zips. The horizontal seam on the apex pieces where the lacing of the doors starts is 6ft 2” high so a van would easily pass under the apex.

The connections are secured with bolts and the ground bars are poles that join the feet of the 6 support legs together.

Cool. Where did you get it and cost please? And how much room you got each side when the vans in it?

As per the earlier link, we got it from Gala Tents. The actual price eludes me now as it was over 4yrs ago. I believe it was between £450/£500 and as expensive as that was for it to have stood erected for all that time and still be watertight shows it is of good quality.

I can’t say what room there would be with the van inside as I’ve never had ours inside it. But it is 5m square so it shouldn’t be too tight on the sides. I feel sure a 6m x 5m one should do the job as a workshop for welding and spraying.

Ok, yeah thanks. Didn’t realise it was that link. Out of my reach, price wise. I’ve come up with an idea using doubled up Harris fencing. Should only need 6 pieces. Each bit is 11’ and the van is around 14’ roughly. It will resemble more of a ‘square tunnel’, but one end will be up against a high fence.
