what are your rough running issues? Changing the master cylinder is not too bad but you will be best to get hold of a gunsons easybleed for running the new fluid through. Seriously you can change on in a couple of hours. GSF should have one in stock.
The only problem with Stef is that he is very busy and you might have to wait for a slot. In fairness to the OP I should say that over the years Stef has done loads of work on my van and without exception it has all been excellent. (Including a Subaru conversion!)
If you're stuck and can travel to Crosby (near Liverpool), there's an excellent guy called Dave O'Shea. He apprenticed on air cooled and became the service manager at a local VW agent before setting up on his own. His premises may not be the most impressive you've ever seen but his knowledge and service are, which is the way I prefer. 0151 931 4040.

That's a good tip - I think he's the same garage that I used a few years ago to fix my son's Polo. He may be an alternative to 81a in Southport who gets very busy.
