I still need to check my oil filter to see if the metal shardes I found in my rocker cover have made it all round the engine. I suspect they have as the oil has a silvery sheen to it . I am fearing the worse and going to start looking for a garage so I can get it sorted and get back on the road as soon as possible. Can anyone recommed a garage in the Manchester area ideally in South Manchester Stockport area, so far I know about MacVW and I seem to remember something in Stalybridge but heard very mixed reviews about MacVW.
Try Mark at Stalybridge classics although think he's moved to Ashton now but only up the road - 07890871435
If I add a magnetic drain plug surely that will stop the metal floating around the engine but need to find out why they are in the oil in the first place, I will check the oil filter first though because it might not be an issue.
Ah - more complex than I thought - source of metal filings must be found first - although they might not be magnetic!
I have had quite a lot of work done by Stefan and he has always done a great job. I do wonder where this all started. He knows a hell of a lot about Aircooled stuff.
It started with an issue a member on here had with a rebuilt engine, and stopped after legal action was threatened, after which we put in place a policy not to mention them. I know people who love the guy but I am amongst those that have had the odd issue. There is no arguing with his knowledge but, like a lot of VW garages, people have mixed experiences. It's one of the reasons that I don't like 'name and shame' threads.
Oops sorry didn't mean to cause a problem, I didn't mention due to a bad experience just not heard of many other garages in the area.
I used this firm and cannot recommend highly enough, a wealth of air cooled experienced, although Chorley may be too far for you......Ask for James http://www.leylandautodiagnostics.co.uk/v-w-aircooled/
Finding a garage. Had loads of work done at ££££ and still can't get it running right. Ferry to France booked for Saturday and now master cylinder has failed + more rough running.
There is also a place in Warrington called muddy Fields Campers if everyone is busy. http://www.muddyfields-campervans.com/
