Fuel tank breathers are connected to what?

  1. Hi folks!
I'm dropping my engine shortly to do the intake manifold boots and sort out the fuel tank pipes.
My question is regarding the breathers. The metal pipes over the engine have never been connected up on my camper so I'm not 100% on how it should look. I believe they should come up to a t piece above the engine then connect to the oil bath filter? I've got a breather pipe between the oil bath and the oil filler. Is that where the fuel tank breathers connect and if so..... How? Thanks!

  3. Yeah matty I looked at this the other day but the picture with the oil bath in isn't quite clear enough to see where it connects. Do you just t into the breather between the oil filler neck and the air filter?

  4. You should have a smaller inlet for the fuel tank breathers on the filter box.

  5. This should help

  6. That's the ticket lofty! Now....... What's H connected to? Or is that a rubber pipe with a screw in the end?

  7. I reckon that is a bit of hose with a screw in it as you say. Just a spare vac take off.
Though if you have servo assisted brakes there will also be a vac take off for that somewhere.

  8. Cheers!

  9. Ok Ive asked before but where does it go from the t piece if you have twin carbs?

  10. I believe you would plumb into one of the filters (does not matter which one) but I am saying this from memory of a previous thread. Probably best to search for the thread and see what the likes of Zed, Para, Paul Weeding et al suggested.

  11. Yeah, you'd attach it to one of the filter tops with twins

  12. Has anyone got a pic of a twin solex setup so I can see where it goes to from the T piece

  13. type 4? If it is there is an attachment on the air filter housing!! It's normally quite large (around 15-20mm) and it has a reducer for the small bore pipe!!

zed posted a brilliant idea about the reducer part. Use the rubber end of an old HT lead. It really is perfect. I've done it several times now for buses with poor tank breathing systems.

Doesn't fit them all apparently and that was supposed to be a bodge Birdy not a permanent fix! I don't know how oil/petrol proof they are... disclaimer over. ;)

Well I can tell you my good man it's been perfect as a part that you can't always find.

  17. I was about to ask if anyone knew where I could get a 6mm tank connector to fit to the top of my aftermarket air filter for the breather. only ones I can find are plastic.
