Fuel Sender Inspection Hatch

    I think I’ll just leave it ‘for now’...

    As it turned out my old sender was fine and better than the replacement I bought so I didn’t actually need to cut it in the first place.

  2. Ahh now that’s a good idea!
    I’ve used rivnuts to make earths...seem alright so far.
    “Anywhere”...except maybe to the tank itself - see, i’m learning

  3. Anywhere in the tank compartment, for convenience. Forget where VW put the earthing point. Rivnuts are fine, as long as they make good contact with the bodywork.

    As above, the other lead from the sender pops out by the RH wheel arch, where it joins the main loom to the front.

  5. I remember when I was at school my old physics teacher smelt gas and went looking for the leak around the gas tap outlets with a lighted match - he didn't find the leak unfortunately.
