  5. Half the price - there's your answer ...
Give them a call and ask if they'll guarantee it's 100% ethanol resistant , they won't , or didn't when I asked the question . Just do a search on here for the proper stuff .

For a T1, 2 metres is enough. I paid. £37 / metre for stainless braided Goodridge 200, as I saw how close rubber hose got to burning through and being crusty in an engine petrol fire . The rubber hose ran next next to stainless braided oil lines which I am still using.

Basically whatever you buy, good ethanol and _heat resistant_ fuel line is insurance not something that you cheap out on.

Most cracking problems are actually from a tight bend radius above hotspots on the engine. Not the Ethanol directly.

It also says JK. Ask them what their definition of ‘safe’ is.

  9. Pump fuel at the moment is 5% Ethanol.
Shortly the ethanol content will be increased to 10% and this means most of old hose is ok at 5% but isn't at 10% so yes , their pipe is 'Ethanol safe' at the moment but when the content is increased it may not be ....

    2 metres btw ..

  10. This was my 3 year old supposedly ethanol rated hose from between the fuel pump and carb . No tight bends and looked perfect until I squeezed it ...

    Scary ....

  11. Get down the motor factors for a couple of metres of Gates R7 straight off the reel. Sorted!

I think you Gates Barricade...ethanol proof up to 100% rather than tolerant to 10%..

  13. Written in another thread 2016.

Thinking of buying fuel filler hose and fuel breather hose?

This may save you spending as much as I have on f ing fuel hose!

After reading a few latebay threads in 2013 I replaced majority of my old braided fuel lines with R9.
Since then many have reported some R9 only lasting a few years.
As engine was coming out I decided to do all of mine with 100% bio fuel hose and kunifer hard line
The R9 from from Advanced Fluid Solutions had small cracks on the outside of the hose. I didn't see the Goodyear stuff, inside the engine bay, when it was removed.

You want 100% bio fuel hose, NOT R9 rated if you are about to buy new fuel hose

    5.5mm i.d 100% bio hose:
    £16.19 p.m Advanaced fluid solutions http://www.advancedfluidsoluti...--diesel-hose-0--100-199-c.asp.
£16.50 per metre http://www.coolairvw.co.uk/ These guys also offer a TLB discount
? per metre at VW aircooled work as they sell in kits. Kevlar reinforced?

    7.3mm i.d 100% bio fuel hose:
£17.51 p.m Advanced fluid solutions. The website doesn't state who manufactures it, but when they sell on ebay it says cohline
    £20.50 per metre coolair vw
£25 per meter VW Aircooled works. Supply cohline

When I was looking to buy 100% bio hose I told the supplier my set up: Tank to 6mm mechanical fuel pump, to filter king to twin carbs. I was told that I needed to get exact measurements of breather pipes, carbs etc, so they could supply the correct sized pipe. I waited for my engine to come out to get measurements of the two poxy tank breathers 7mm i.d. There was no point in doing this as everyone sells the same two sizes of pipe. So I could have ordered it all before the engine came out. I think everyone sells cohline stuff as well!

Other suppliers for fuel filler hose etc
http://jtarubber.co.uk/index.htm. john@jtarubber.co.uk. He sells off cuts on ebay under Seller montyidd, you can message him for alternative lengths etc if they aren't listed. I'm not sure i.f his stuff is 100% bio fuel hose. I'm pretty sure he is the supplier of the filler pipes that many vw people sell though. Search the forum for further info on jta rubber

I hope this will save someone some cash.

I have bought far too much fuel hose. I would have been in ignorant bliss if it wasn't for this forum.
On the flips side a mate lost his bug to fire!

  14. No, sir, I mean bog-standard R7, straight off the reel.

  15. @snotty you obviously rate your Gates R7 hose very highly.

R9 hose has an even higher rating than R7 and many people have problems with R9!

All research (other than your own) says people should get 100% bio ethanol proof hose. Many people fit Cohline 100% ethanol proof hose.

If people want Gates hose then they should get 100% Ethanol Proof Gates barricade hose, not Gates R7!
    https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/ethanol-proof-fuel-hose-by-gates.html
This gates one says ethanol proof, i have no idea if its 100% Ethanol proof.

But watch out.. some hoses are 100% ethanol proof up to a certain temperature, OR are proof against 120C with a different fuel.

As an example from the Cohline data sheet..

Cohline says for e.g 2134....NBR E10 resistant hose..

    Petrol E10 max 50C
    Water, heating oil 90C
    Diesel 70C, briefly 110C

So its not surprising that this kind of hose may crack when carrying petrol.

According to that catalog, NONE of the Cohline hoses can cope with roasting with even E10 petrol in them.

On the other hand - Gates Barricade

    https://www.gates.com/us/en/search.p.4219-000000-000002.html

    Says 125 C for E85 ...

And my own personal favourite stainless braided motorsport hose

    https://www.goodridge.co.uk/products/200-series-braided-nitrile-hose

Which is rated 150C for E100.

Or a fabric braided version , the 210 series braided nitrile hose, less of a pain (literally) to terminate.
