I did this thread a little while ago. You should have a read. http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/Speaker-fitting-update.23413/#post-387648
Think we've had this discussion before!? I think I was called a pariah or something for having speaker in the kick panels that would lack bass and clarity Well... 5" pioneers up front there in sculpted pods. Going to change the screw fittings at some point in the future when I change the vinyl to match the doors Clearance is only a problem if I'm wearing my fashionable work shoes with pointy toes!! There are some build pics in my resto thread
Having a rethink at the moment and am thinking about one of these: http://www.classiccarstereo.co.uk/c...ers/retrosound-6-speaker-dual-voice-coil.html Dual input so you still get stereo sound and it should fit up in the grill part above the stereo hole, might even see if a 6x9 will fit What say you all?
Interesting. I don't think the cabin of the bay offers any ideal location as tweeters should ideal face the ear of the person on the opposite side... or something along those lines!! If you use the dash location the tweeter bits will have to bounce off the glass. You may also find the bass in a 6inch speaker rattles the dash, buttons, wires, heater controls.... Speakers in the doors are a bit low and pointing sideways - the kick panels (like mine) point down a bit and not up!! There aren't many locations to fit component speakers as the separate tweeter needs to be no greater than 9" away... try finding a good location for two speakers per side! My preference was the kick panels, but if I could mount an enclosed 6" mid between the air duct and dash with an unhindered line to the occupant and find an aesthetically pleasing place for a tweeter at the top of the door or A pillar / dash junction i think that would offer the bet performance.
Well tweeters will bounce of the glass if you mount them on the dash. I might try a normal speaker in the middle dash and see if it is any good or really rattly. Will continue to make the pods as well so I have the choice. I have some components I could put in but I bought some 3 way fli speakers for now as the components will cut the bass out. Not wanting a massively loud or rhumpinf system but not rattly bad sounding either. I'll figure something out
I'm telling ya, read my thread. I only have two speakers at the moment (2 more wired and waiting for the interior) and it sounds awesome. So good that the other two speakers will be facing the rear of the van as I don't need them facing me cause itself loud enough and it will provide better sound for the rear passengers.
Also if you want some extra base you can just add an amp and a sub although I do not think I will need it or if it's worth the compromise for space in the back
I put 6x9 in the doors low down, and stick 40w sound exciters under the metal part of the top of the dash, sounds great all together, and you can actually hear it above 70mph!!
