I've taken the front vent cover off and noticed some rust inside, it seems the rain is getting through the leaf guard and sitting my question is how should this water drain away, the leaf guard is damaged at one end
There's a drain which run out of the bottom and connects to large-ish pipe which exits under the nearside wheel arch .. Dunno about different models but that's on a '75 LHD . Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
I had the same rust behind the fresh air grille. Treated and painted. From memory I believe when the two air vents are opened, levers on the dash, should be rubber seals behind the vent plates and any water getting behind the open vents drains down through a length of plastic hose to under the van. Hose can be seen if the kick panel removed inside the cab. My hose was missing and I just used a piece of washing machine hose cut to size.
As above. If refurbing this area it's worth replacing the rubber seal round the flaps as it can be draughty in winter. Domestic door seal works fine.
I've no hole maybe someone has filled it in, on each side there is a dip in the corner which looks as if the water could drain from a PO has put a bead of silicone in which I've scrapped out, mine is a 71
If you mean this bit forward of the flaps but behind the grille then there’s no drain holes, in early or late!
My flaps are sealed closed so the water pools in front of them does it just run out under the grill ?
Ah, right. From memory, there aren't any drainholes in the front box - or are there? Can't remember. Where would the water go?
What I think has happened the PO has run a bead of silicone stopping the water, I've cleaned this off so hopefully the water should now just run off
As mentioned by @SundialCamperSpecialists , there`s no drain at the front BEFORE the flaps , just the airbox behind which has a hosepipe sized runoff that exits under the wheelarch ...
The water shouldn’t get in and what does should be circulated out through the fresh air system under air pressure. It shouldn’t be much at all. Is there a place where water is getting in other than through the front of the grill? The flaw is people don’t use the fresh air vent much in wet conditions.
Does your van sit high at the front? Is your street on a hill? One or both of these could be a factor
