The boat people problem has been allowed to continue without challenge for years and the Tories have failed to take the issue seriously enough to do something about it. We are out of the EU now so we can in theory tackle the problem without EU interference. Migrants are made welcome here if they go through the visa application system, what we don't want is migrants turning up in boats from Calais without any legitimate application. We don't know who they are and may pose a threat to national security. The Calais migrants are in a safe country and not being threatened in any way. So from France they could apply for a UK visa, but choose instead to pay the traffickers for the boat trips. We and the Tories have to do something as the daily numbers are out of control. the weather is good this week and we will likely get thousands more come across and who will be paying to house and feed them all. As I see it, making a stand and sending illegals to Rwanda. may not be right or kind, but it will put a lot off trying to come here. The World economy is now in free fall since February 24th and many countries are close to bankrupt and ordinary folks will be hit hard in those countries which would likely trigger mass migrations, so our current problem may get far worse. Financially our Government doesn't have a bottomless pit of money to spend on illegals, and with the way our economy is heading with fuel and food and housing costs escalating rapidly, money should be spent on supporting our own people. Why should we borrow money to support illegals? Times are tough and we cannot afford the luxury of supporting illegals in such large numbers.
There is no such thing as an "illegal" as you call these people. International law does not require a person seeking refuge to make a claim in the first safe country they land in. If people arrive here and are processed quickly, then this issue would not be an issue. We have such a back log because we don't process peoperly, not because we get lots of people, infact it is much smaller in numbers that other European countries. Even our so called welcoming hand to the Ukrainian refugees has been a shambles.
I think stopping people get into a boat and starting a trip across the channel might be a little harder than you think.
Those poor people risking their lives and the lives of their children to escape from France, I always thought France was a safe country
Got no sympathy for them just turn them back problem with our country it’s full of do gooders look after ourselves first and send all illegals to Rwanda best idea Pritti Patel has ever had
Why can't there be a coach waiting by the beach to take the boat people directly to a plane at Bournemouth Airport, next stop Rwanda. Bet the crossings would stop quite quickly.
