In another Daily Telegraph article (forgive me I've been reading such filth) it was said, "Denny Dolan was rushed to hospital last week after being mauled by a fox, which reportedly ripped off his finger and tried to drag him on to the street. The animal is believed to have got into the family home in Bromley, south-east London, through a broken back door, climbed into Denny’s cot in the living room and launched the vicious attack. His 28-year-old mother, Hayley Banks Cawley, says she had to kick the fox repeatedly to make it drop her baby from its bloodied jaws." Did you see a picture of the baby's face? If it had been a vicious attack that child would have no nose, checks etc I've seen a dog attack on a 3 year old recently and the scaring was horrific.
A more balanced outline is here http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/17524032.2012.716370 it's a bit of a read but has some good thought provoking stuff in there, especially the reaction to events like this by the media and our relationship with 'real wild animals'
6,450 dog attack admissions last year 1,040 were under 10 yrs. http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2012/aug/09/dog-bite-hospital-admissions-rise common sense doesn't seem to prevail above media hysteria. :/
My boys pee around our fence line to keep the foxes away and it definitely doesn't work. It seems to be a bit more effective having a dog around the garden though, maybe the wee is close to fox smell and they think it's another animal's territory?
Similar figures to Ermintrude's:- 6890 Dog bites 1050 Cat bites 402 Human bites (Thought to be less than 10% of actual total as this is 'bites only', most are recorded alongside other injuries sustained in drunken fights!) 22 Fox bites My statement about hunting humans still stands.
Never mind a few thousand urban foxes lured into towns and cities by silly humans, not a peep about the annual slaughter of grouse bred and shot at in part for entertainment.
As far as I am aware no grouse are bred for shooting, are you sure you don't mean pheasants, perhaps we should stick to VW's something we all know a bit about.
