I remember that weekend a shocking time..

 

well that race was exciting NOT

 

So very near to 3 fatalities that weekend.

 

Ouch!! This was about the time I started watching. I dare say as a youngster the excitement of the danger was a reason for watching.... we've come a long way since then.

 

I forget how young some of you lot are.

 

I'm 38 3/4.... I hope that doesn't make you feel any older

Whilst there's a bit of morbidity in this thread next year will be the 40th 'anniversary' of Ronnie Petersen's death.

Such a waste - at the time he didn't seem to be any great danger although his legs were pretty smashed up.

I remember watching him on BBC1.

In some ways I feel that this was a 'golden era' of F1 and he was the ultimate 'racer' during that period.

 

I watched Gilles win at Kyalami, South Africa in 1979 – he was one year older than me. Another sad loss.

 

I was just born...
