Das Island is part of Abu Dhabi, but is actually closer to Doha than Abu Dhabi. I know Jebel Ali well, not that there was much there in my day (77-89). What ship were you operating? Tony
One of Her Majesty's Mine Hunters HMS Bicester - I was the Navigating Officer, Jebel Ali was an easy port to enter and exit, once I got told off for speeding by the harbour master because we were causing to much of a wake! There is little I really remember about the place apart from we ran to the dockyard gate one evening and got a lift back as I think it was 7 miles away.
My family and I watched Jebel Ali port being being built in the 80's, they just dug a bloody great hole then flooded it!! Running 7 miles to the dockyard gate, that was a waste of energy, you would have been better off getting a lift to the gate, then running to the Jebel Ali Hotel and getting a cold beer! Tony
Im just filling in for someone who is sick this trip, hopefully he gets better so I don't need to come back. We get reports from the platforms telling us that they are expelling toxic gasses and when we do close passes nobody is allowed outside, good in a way because I can sit here on TLB and have some entertainment instead of being out on deck working, hehe!
