Flat Spot moving from 3rd to 4th gear at Speed.

  1. I recently had my Solex twin carbs setup and balanced at the weekend and saw an immediate improvement in the running of the engine however at speed moving from 3rd to 4th there seems to be quite a noticeable flat spot. After discussing this with the tech who carried out the work he put it down to the standard stock exhaust I have, causing a bottle neck of exhaust gases. This does make sense to me but I am not mechanically minded. Is this likely to be the cause and if so what exhaust (Stainless Steel) what you guys recommend. Thanks again in advance.

I don't think he's right, I have a 1955cc T1 with a std 1600 beetle exhaust and no flat spot. Maybe you're changing gear to lower speed, it won't pull well in 4th below 40mph.
