Fitting SS quiet pack exhaust

  1. Well it only moved a little whilst the manifold wasn't attached so was just checking that was normal. When the manifold is on everything feels rock solid.

Thanks for your input really is a massive help

  2. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

If there is one. Not all manifolds have them.

  3. Hmm not sure I am thinking of the right bolts now!! Where would it be located?

Also weird and probably obvious question where should the tailpipe bracket hang from? It came with a little clip on the manifold but doesn't seem to attach to the bracket on tailpipe

  4. Have a look under the horizontal run of the inlet manifold, around the fuel pump. There may be a hook on the casting that attaches to one of the crankcase bolts.

The tailpipe normally attaches to a bracket that in turn attaches to one of the header pipes. If you've got the JK kit, whatever they've provided (from memory) won't fit. A large jubilee clip around the tailpipe and one of the header pipes did the trick on my old EMPI exhaust. I've got a JK stainless and the tailpipe's unsupported - it's fine.

Just fitted the JK stainless exhaust. Used a lot of grinder tips on a Dremel tool as that fits down the preheat pipe attachment hole. Made the holes about the same size as the tube diameter.

Had to shorten one of the preheater tubes slightly to get ìit to line up with the header flanges. Wobbled it out of the casting and hacksawed 5mm off the end.

With a bit of bending the P clip bracket which supports the exhaust fitted with the flat bit uppermost on the top right hand tube from No.2 on the header.

Combined with a progressive with preheated air from a stock oil bath and it is noticeably quicker than with the EMPI twin quiet pack and the same carb.

It is also sounding even less like a traditional putt putt exhaust, more of a single tone ...

  6. Can any of you post a pic?

  7. Christ that's some effort. Took us 2 evenings to get it sorted in the end but its all on now, just the heating to look at tomorow night then done

We just got the bolts through the pre heat pipes using leveraging and just pushing and pulling until they were all in then pinched them all up slowly, took ages sounds so easy typed like this!!

One of the bolts we had to come up from the bottom and put a nut on the end (so it was a nut on top of the pre heat pipes) as we couldn't get the angled right for the connection.

Sounds really good though nice deep sound bit louder than the stock exhaust that was on there.

  8. Picture of what in particular?

  9. Is this ok?

    kilmo and 12345 like this.
  10. I'm after a aftermarket exhaust, a photo of pre heat pipes connected and heat exchangers connected would be great so I can get a good idea

  11. Didn't take any pics sorry, just out the tinware back on tonight too so might be hard to get the photo you need. The heat exchangers are same as stock but you just run air hose down to them (through the holes in tin) from the fan
