Fitting new filler hose and neck question ..

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Lasty, Jun 8, 2014.

  1. Just recieved my new filler neck and hose from VWheritage as i`m dropping the engine next week ....
    Couple of questions for anyone who`se done this (1975 - T1 1600) .
Is there a connector between between the angled neck at the main hose ??
Is the angled neck behind the filler cap is supposed to sit OVER the longer lower pipe and held in place with a jubilee clip as the diagram shows :- (supposed to be the lower diagram for my van).

If that`s the case it just isn`t going to happen as i can`t get the neck of the angle (27) over the longer pipe (26B).

I reckon i need 26A as seems to be some kind of reducer but told no by the "knowledgable" bloke who took the order ..

Hmmm - bought the bits suggested by VWH but don`t want to drop the motor and find i have bits missing / wrong ...

Thanks for any advice / suggestions ...

  2. There is a metal tube that links 26B to 27.... you can see it in the 2nd picture down of the 2 tanks

  3. The easiest way to put it back is put piece 27 onto the metal pipe before it goes back in but it's kind of obvious once you try

  4. On a later Bay, the large bore metal pipe (not numbered in pics) pushes into both rubber parts and is secured by jubilee clips.

  5. That explains everything - thanks guys ....
Seems the shaded `middle` pipe without a number is a metal pipe connecting the two parts .

    Cheers .... :hattip:
