FIT AND FORGET FUEL LINE- I FITTED IT - I HOPE I CAN FORGET IT

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Sproggy4830, Mar 17, 2018.

  1. I went to local company who supply fire extinguishers etc. They supplied a bottle of liquified gas with 4 meters of blue tube attached which goes round the top of engine bay and I fitted it myself. The LG is more expensive but is more efficient and less damaging to engine as it’s cleaner when deployed. Cost £185 all in. Pictures to follow. Steve

Changing the breather hose behind the spare wheel well is a piece of cake if you take the rear light fitting out.

  4. The cover is a piece of plastic soil pipe covered in westy seat fabric to protect the extinguisher form luggage in Load area. Tube in cabin covered with air hose to protect it.

  5. What gas is it?

  6. Any chance of another write up when you do this please. I need to do mine but not sure if there is an easier way than taking out the engine.

  8. Any advice on how to get to the pipes above and behind fuel tank? Is it engine out then firewall out to get to them?

  9. If you haven't had a hole cut near the fuel sender then it is engine out. To be honest I prefer to drop the engine. It does not need full removing. Just unbolt and drop down until you can take the firewall off. It's pretty easy from there. Change your filler neck as well if that has not been done.

The alternative method is gauranteed to leave you with cuts and scrapes up your arms and a lot of swearing.

  10. I have a hole for the fuel sender but its only a few inches square.

I think it's engine out time not done this before so I will post I new thread as I will need some help. Thanks and good call on fuel filler neck.

The dimensions given by Halfords are strange aren’t they?
    87MM Width
    19MM Top Inner Diameter
    17MM Bottom Inner Diameter
    72.5MM Height

Unfortunately that's why I think mine has bits missing . It's cut and squashed up at the end here , looks butched to me .

I think I need to do a engine out job to make a proper job of it . I am hoping to just enjoy the van this year so it's a job for next year . But yes a write up I will do .

I think mine is missing all from 23 forwards and across the front to 10a and certainly nothing is attached to air filter box. I think the little cylinder bits that go into the side air intakes are missing .
What are the chances of getting replacement parts ?

Pretty slim unless from someone breaking a van I’d have thought.
@davidoft probably has about 40 sets.

Find out if the condenser tubes are still in the rear corners or not

  19. Having been in and looked at that filter, the sizes make perfect sense, can't see how it would work on a camper though.
