  3. it's not good, our dog has got worse, we just got back from Cornwall and Halloween was like New Year for fireworks, poor dog really suffered.

  4. They're all down at Calais or so I've heard...truck drivers using bangers to clear out unwanted visitors.....quite effective it is said.

  5. Eddie and Branko are not having a good night. Generally Eddie has been OK in the past (this is Branko's first firework season) but every time a banger goes off they have been barking and getting visibly distressed. Not impressed.

it's a shame deffo better for poppy in her crate in the dark, we think her being free to roam makes her more tense because we try to fuss her? leaving her alone seems to be better, she's panting a bit but seems ok ish.

  7. Been a few of those as well. At the moment sounds like a local display is going off, thankfully we don't seem to have a problem. Looks quite content lying in her bed.

My current cats are looking a bit edgy with latest firework salvo outside, but not too bad.
I used to have one cat that you had to keep shut in a room as she would try to bolt.
My other one (merlin) once overcame his distrust of fireworks to actually sit in the garden when we were doing a display with our neighbours! We did have jacket pots, burgers and sausages tho so he was happy to hang around the food table and ignore the commotion :)

  9. With the radio on loud and some herbal medicine from the vets we have just come home to sh@t on the floor wall and doors. Still got next weekend to look forward to. Normally takes us till December before she settles down on her night time walks :(

  10. We've also had that when we went out on Nov 5th a few years ago, so we stay in on firework nights. This year we have used a 'KONG' anxiety reducing shirt last night and first impressions was this did help but she was still shaking a bit.

  11. Gale force winds and pishing rain here last night but still people letting off fireworks.
One of our dogs couldn't give two hoots about them but our new rescue dog heard one bang and shot under the chair. Not really scared of them just a little jumpy at the first one as she didn't know what it was. She just slept the rest of the night under the chair.

Our old collie used to be scared stiff and wouldn't even go out in the garden when it was dark, even weeks later. :(

  12. Got a cockatiel with a nervous twitch this morning. Some git was still having a full display at 0400 , grrrrr

  13. I thought there was an 11pm cut off time for fireworks, though how it would be enforced is beyond me.

  14. I thought there was a cut off time too. Took the dogs out at 11.30 pm last night - all quiet until I got back to the door - then BANG - an airburst thing went off about 1/2 mile away and our nervous collie dog starts barking. The bangs went on for an hour or more after that - some idiots having a late night firework party just as everyone else is getting to sleep - idiots. Then , out with the dogs again at 9 this morning - in the middle of the field when some idiot on the estate 1/2 mile away sets off a massive airburst one again -made me jump and dog goes bananas barking again - and the geese at Martin Mere 3 miles away were up in the air squawking - thousands of them in a cloud - shows how load it was.

  15. That's ok but how is it enforced and by who? Council go home at 17.30 and police too busy also the fire brigade on strike at the moment is a concern.

  16. I think it relies on neighbour complaints - same as any neighbour noise nuisance - I think 3 neighbours must complain before the council/police will do anything.
I wonder what the special occasions are for exemptions to the 11pm rule?

started early here, got the radio on loud in the kitchen and the telly very loud - sorry neighbours, poppy is a bit jittery but seems ok but won't leave my side.

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

When we got ours as a pup we aclimatised it to loud noises and fussed about with her paws and stuff. Then she'd let you look when she got a thorn it a paw and ignored fireworks. It worked a treat but of course she might just have been thick. I hope everyone's dogs cope ok, it's no fun to see an animal suffer and be powerless to stop it. Loud telly sounds like a good idea.
