Finally got the van after many years of longing! Work to be done.....guessing I need to get used to that?! To many decisions to make but can't wait to get involved. Anyway thought I better say hi? Where to begin...... I am a 44 year old cross dresser so not sure where I belong, looking for help and guidance in this new chapter in life!!
As a fellow first time owner can i just say well done, ive met so many people who say how much they love them but have never managed to own one - mines still getting work done on it before its usable but im still able to say ive got one
The best advice I've had is prioritise using it first over making it look pretty. It's really easy to fall in to the trap of trying to make it look perfect then realising you've wasted 2 years or longer. They always need work, but as long as it's safe and mot'd, use it as much as you can and understand that there are very very few perfect vans out there. Oh...check all you fuel hoses as a priority if it's mot'ed...lots of info on here if you search for it.
It's a great feeling mine was in the garage for a month and just got her back, off for a trip to lakes this weekend so keep your fingers crossed!!
Sounds like great advice and I agree I want a van to use and enjoy and not to just spend hours with tcut and a cloth! Off to the lakes this weekend to test my patience with the gears!
Ahhh I recall those halcyon days! Eventually you'll get over the love. Enjoy it while it's not a f'ing sh**toss pile of start you barstool
Hello and welcome from the depths of the New Forest. Not sure where you belong? Well you've 'liked' all the sarcastic posts so that's a good start... I'd say you belong here Lovely looking bus. Enjoy
Hi and welcome. Make sure you have breakdown cover. Drive it often and maintain it. These old vans are tricky to own in my experience so far and they need constant attention. Get some manuals and learn about the van. Are you hoping to do your own maintenance or pay a garage to do it all for you? Check out underneath and the engine bay. Do oil changes straightaway and replace all fuel hoses and the breathers for safety. Spend some time looking on the forum and you will see a long list of common problems, its all part of ownership of these vans. Ok your van looks nice but washing it once a week and giving it a polish now and again would not be enough. Enjoy it.
Welcome! Use it and decide what you want to do with it based on experience as opposed to what looks nice in photos or cool.....or your own delusions.
