Falling asleep during the day

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Zebedee, Feb 7, 2013.

  1. The doctors are still trying to find out what else is wrong with my missus.
She's falling asleep during the day (sometimes even part way through a conversation). Its not even as if she's not sleeping at night, as she is.

Today she's slept from 10:30am until nearly midday, had some lunch and then slept from 1ish until 3 when we had a coffee (that she fell asleep with it in her hand spilling it). We've just had dinner and she's asleep again.
She gets really pee'd off if i wake her up but she's also annoyed about falling asleep in the first place.

Doctors reckon its not side effects from any of her tablets but something else that they don't know about.

The house is so quiet i've no idea what to do.

  2. Iron deficiency?

As a ME suffer myself its not that you are permanently tired and you fill like you have the flu all the time but you don't fall asleep.
Might be narcolepsy i had a freind with it and he made a full recoverly

    Wishing you both the best

  5. We aren't the people to ask, I'd advise going back to the Doctors as this behavior isn't natural.

Wishing you both the best, with a speedy recovery :)

  6. If the Doctor finds a cure please let me know. I have a number of employees who appear to be suffering from the same thing!!!
Seriously though, get her in and don't be fobbed off, hope it all goes well.

  7. yes whatever it is as people say it doesnt sound right at all! x

  8. Good Luck Martyn (now where's that hug smiley gone  )

  9. They thought she had fibromyalgia while we were at uni, then they changed their mind and said MS. Then cerebral palsy was thrown around and now they've settled on hereditary spastic paraplegia, but they don't know what type yet.

They seem positive its not a tablet side effect but as she's on so many tablets for different things that she rattles when she walks ;) who is to say 2 tablets reacting with each other wouldn't cause a previously unheard of side effect?

She's seen so many specialist and had so many tests over the past 15 years its unreal. Most specialists don't seem to give a toss to be honest and tests have come back clear (or normal).

  10. hiya, less of the Martin with a Y. Its with an I. ;)
    You both doing OK?

  11. apologies, it was Julie who told me it was with a 'y'
both ok, are you still up for Dent or will you have to see how Fran is?

  12. I'll be coming to Dent. Not sure if Fran will be. She can't walk any distance now and is asleep most of the time so we'll just have to see closer to the time.

  13. Sounds a bit like narcolepsy o_O

    Not fun whatever it is!!

  14. Does sound a bit like a reaction between drugs but problem is you and / or the doctors will never know as there are too many variables and unknowns.

Is she stressed or worried? Maybe it's stress induced narcolepsy or similar? It then becomes a spiral, the more she gets it the more stressed she gets about it and so she gets it more.

While i dont know your financial stuiation, I would highly recommend looking at going private and spending some money to get a specialist to take a look. You can always replace belongings but you can't replace your health.

  15. When they were trying to find out what was wron with me the suggested a form of narcelepsy
It wasent it was chronic fatigue syndrome and i was just constantly bolloxed

Hope you get to the bottom of it soon dude and if you ever want to natter give us a shout

  16. ok, this may sound a bit strange but could it be food orientated? be worth having her glucose checked as i get v sleepy after certain foods as i have a high glucose thing (can't remember what it's called). sugars (refined and fruit) and simple carbs (white bread, rice, pasta etc) sugar too quickly. Also, wheat allergy or intolerance can cause fatigue. maybe worth an exclusion diet for a week or so just to check. fingers crossed for you both x

  17. Hope you get it sorted, go back to the Docs and ask for further tests
    Good luck

  18. Sorry mate I cannot offer any ideas or advice, but I would like to send you both my very best wishes and I hope it gets resolved soon.

  19. Thanks.:)

Doctors don't think its narcolepsy. Not sure what tests they do for that though.

  20. Narcolepsy is a form of epilepsy... so they'd monitor her brain wave patterns over 24hrs or something...
