  1. Anyone have a couple of m8/m8 type 4 exhaust studs ?

  2. prob not much help mate but aren"t they a standard size ? when mine were fubard i went to local garage and fella gave me a couple wot did fit ,< might help?

  3. Gsf sell them think they are the same as a mk2 golf

  4. I may have, I will check tonight

  5. Keith cheers .
Just thought i`d ask before i go and buy some

  6. Probably some in my garage if Keith hasn't got any.
Shout me up if you don't find any and I'll have a look, can leave them at the Gateway.

  7. T've new ones ( I borrow them from work) you can have with alan stud heads on them so you can tighten them into the heads you can have :)

  8. They sound like grub screws. Not sure they'll be strong enough if they are?

  9. need to be M8 both ends and 56 long , I can get studding or grubscrews but really wanted proper studs heritage don`t sell them

  10. If you can't get the proper studs the only alternative I would consider is a high tensile bolt with the head cut off.

  11. What about ones made from 316 stainless steel ? @Joker

  12. Not sure if its suitable -
from aalcoa - 316 has good resistance to oxidation in intermittent service to 870°C and in continuous service to 925°C. However, continuous use at 425-860°C is not recommended if corrosion resistance in water is required. In this instance 316L is recommended due to its resistance to carbide precipitation.

Where high strength is required at temperatures above 500°C, grade 316H is recommended. All a bit high spec for our humble VW's

What you're looking for is the material property to be cycled from cold and then run for long durations at high temperature. I'm guessing we see temps at around 500 C at the studs.

I've got inconel 718, its used in the hot bit of a jet engine. If I could get enough scrap bits together i'd get a load made up. At the temperatures we're looking at you don't get any oxidation at all so 718 is great as it looks as new as the day its installed and at these temperatures theres no creep either. Its hard as nails though so grinding and threading takes some specialist kit and tooling

@MorkC68 can you get this in small quantities, Nimonic 80/105/115, Inconel 718? I can get it machined easy enough but its sourcing the material. I'm not actually based in a lab anymore so I stand out like a sore thumb when i'm routing through a scrap bin in my suit

  13. BTW - I installed some new ones in a head last year and they were Marmitee, they'd rusted before i'd used them

  14. Heritage do stainless type 1 studs , wrong length but stainless steel

  15. I do have have 316l so may use that

  16. I knew i had some M8 but they are only 45mm, yours if they are of any use

@Joker Nimonic 80, 90 or 105 are easily available, 110 or 115 not so. I wanted 2 metres of 115, the minimum order was 5 tonnes, wtf : o

If you want bolts or studs, try these guys they do most exotic steels including the Inconel 718 you mentioned and they are relatively cheap:
    http://www.ralingroup.co.uk/manufacturing.html

We use them regularly, they will make studs or bolts to length, full thread or shouldered too.

    HTH :)

  19. you want 115 I can get it by the metre. Not cheap, its about £1500 but great for pull bars/adaptors. Let me know
    :)

  20. Really !!!
There the same ones you get off eBay "replacement exhaust studs "
I had some for my own engine and then
We started to use them for slideing shop front doors you know the ones a couple of feet wide 6 or 7 ft tall big lump of glass in them so yes they are strong enough !!
