Exhaust header (heat exchanger) temperature.

  1. Anyon e got any idea on what temp the exhaust gets to (not the outside of the exchanger but the inside!) Looking at lining my exchangers to replace the existing lining and its been suggested soldering mats might be appropriate but they come in different temperatures, As air is going through there all the time whethet the flaps are open or closed then somewhere below that temp might be ok but nevertheless I dont want it to catch!

  2. Exhaust gasses normally run to 1400 to 1600°F, but the actual pipes nearest to the head will be around 230°c... plus the cooling air from the engine will drop it down fairly!!

  3. Ta Paul thats reasuring. Was working on everything not toasting at 500 and i want to seal the cases as best I can where the headers enter the exchanger as oil always seems to find a way in from there if theres either a push rod tube or rocker gasket leak. (I am gonna fix em honest!)
