Engine tinware seal replacement

  3. I've got to do this job today on my type4 engine. It's easy enough to push into place but last time I did it it ended up too long so I cut a bit off. It's subsequently shrunk so I have a 2 inch gap in it. The foam was presumably cut to the right length when supplied.

    Any hints to get it right this time. I usually start at the back.

    The join goes in the opposite place on a type 4 as the fan is at the back, so the join is below the fuel tank firewall.
    If the foam seems too long then spread the extra all round - don't cut it (but I guess you know that one now :rolleyes:).
    Check all round underneath when you're done to see if it's properly through.
    Fit it shiny side down.

  5. Many thanks Mark. I was kind of assuming I'd have to do something like that - a bit like spreading the rubber round on the sliding door. I was tempted to cut that too but realised in time.
