Sorted ... easier than it first looked. Thanks for all the advice Steering damper swap out next on the list ... one for tomorrow
I've got to do this job today on my type4 engine. It's easy enough to push into place but last time I did it it ended up too long so I cut a bit off. It's subsequently shrunk so I have a 2 inch gap in it. The foam was presumably cut to the right length when supplied. Any hints to get it right this time. I usually start at the back.
The join goes in the opposite place on a type 4 as the fan is at the back, so the join is below the fuel tank firewall. If the foam seems too long then spread the extra all round - don't cut it (but I guess you know that one now ). Check all round underneath when you're done to see if it's properly through. Fit it shiny side down.
Many thanks Mark. I was kind of assuming I'd have to do something like that - a bit like spreading the rubber round on the sliding door. I was tempted to cut that too but realised in time.
