  1. It's wat I use the 6" extension piece from my socket set as.. though it should really be something softer they say.. Just something of a smaller diameter than the hole it goes into but bigger than the thing you're trying to knock out of that hole..

  2. Very impressive. There is actually a cylinder head underneath all that sh1te...

  3. Yeah then I FUBAR'ed it by getting a guide stuck half way in... rattling the valve seats out and dropping it as it was too hot to hold still and dented the face where the barrel seals against! Doh! Still all lessons eh! Heads off to machine shop now!

  4. Some progress

Piston no 4 is off, so now needs cleaning

Last nite I cleaned Pistons 1,2 & 3, as well as fitting the new rings

Started on the heads but the tool I had to remove the valve springs was not up to the job (to small) but I managed to make a start on decoking the carbon.

Also honed the barrels as well.

  5. You've even got the asbestos filled exhaust shield thingy that rusts way to bits! I'm sure my pile of metalwork is bigger than that....having put more paint on it tonight

  6. Couple of bits left out of the picture

Cylinder tinware, oil filler pipe, engine mounts.

Need to contact a few more painters today.

  7. Are you sure they're steps in the head chamber... I bought some , the guy was positive they were steps. I slid a feeler gauge under them and popped them out.. Have you got the part no from by the rockers?

  8. Pretty positive, while I was cleaning the heads I have had a tiny screwdriver in there removing the charcoal deposits.

It has AMC printed on the side. I will nip out now to check the part number.

  12. I take it from your rebuild thread that yours don't have the machined lip?

  13. No VW heads with grubby stuck in place gaskets...!!
