Dubfreeze needs a make-over

  1. I've been to a few shows at Bingley Hall, and in the main I've not been disappointed.
This year was a little different...there weren't many traders and a distinct lack of autojumble...
Guess you can't please all the people all the time, but I for one like mooching around the secondhand stalls, seeing if I can find elusive parts...
As it's a relatively small room, it'd be ideal for an specialist indoor autojumble/outdoor swap meet....with camping facilities over the week end...
I know it's unlikely to happen, but rather than trying to incorporate different aspects such as displays, show and shine, non-related stalls etc., if it concentrated on becomming THE place to go for secondhand bits (traders and non traders alike) I reckon it'd be much better attended...

  2. Dub shows have changed because the scene has changed
Theres more money in it than ever before and its rapidly losing its grass roots vibe

@sjhjoinery are usually there, but not this time. Interesting to know why not from their point of view ?

  10. Last year I thought the show was poor and going down hill with less traders and the traders there selling more Tat, this year I decided to put money into other shows like volksworld instead.
I was going to go as a customer but didn't get round to it!

    Was it a good show?

It was very poor - you probably did the right thing. i just wondered what your reasoning was

  12. Oh good choice then now wondering about the February one, as I also thought this one Was on the decline this year too!!

I was saying to @MorkC68 that we should just organize a monthly or quarterly day meet in a car park somewhere to do a swap meet, bring your bits a long meet up get rid and have a chat for a lot less.

I trade in a different line altogether, but am finding it a lit harder of late. I sell plants on markets in north norfolk and attract regular customers from all over the uk. I am however finding that a lot of people will go online and purchase stuff without regard for the price. Bulbs for example, I'm always getting people telling me they just bought the same thing online for ten. Yes ten times the price
People are getting lazy. Even older people who were once computer illiterate.
Luckily we will always have a trade as we talk to people and have banter, you won't get that on eBay or at tesco lol

  14. I've never been to Dubfreeze before but it was very poor IMHO.
I have been to the 60/70's Bike show at the same venue which attracts somewhere around 50,000 visitors and uses ALL of the available halls of which at least 30% is autojumble plus outside the entire front of the showground is also autojumble/traders.
    Was Dubfreeze ever like this?
I had my own swapmeet at Dubfreeze, the big box was considerable emptier and the tool box went. Sadly I filled up all the available room with a door, engine hatch, 4 arches, two sills, rear crossmember and battery tray.

Cheap then. The last one I know of selling went for £65k.

  16. I've been to Dubfreeze three or four times now.. Never seen it so empty.. The main hall is normally quite full of traders and the smaller hall is usually full of second hand tat.
(I did manage to buy an original front arch at this show to replace the fridge door that was welded to my bus)

  17. Actually it's more likely the show organizers that has killed off the jumblers... About 8 years ago pitch prices went through the roof and made it very costly for weekend traders

A mate of mine used to trade and he was saying back then that he had to take over £150 to actually start making a profit!!

I've been a couple of times - got well *******ed off when I realised that some of the big traders put their prices UP for the show.

Couple that with a million towels and bath mats and it feels like a themed day out at Barry Island - and some of the autojumble prices are mad too, but then that's the same at all of the shows I've been to (admittedly not loads).

  19. @sjhjoinery what's your next show?
I went on way back down to nub freeze first timer and thought it was poo.
    Bought a burger.

  20. My mate said the Newark auto jumble is a good one, he says there's a fair bit of Vw stuff there and it's always reasonably priced! I'm gonna go to the next one to see for my self!

Yes if I remember right it's about £85 per 3x3 meter pitch there so you have to sell a fair bit to gain a return especially when you factor in petrol and wages, as no one wants to stand there for free!
