Remember the Couple who went around France Spain and Morocco In 2013 and didn't brake down In a white westy with a sp 1600 EB And they made it back ok
Like for like recon would be simplest and probably cheapest as you've already got all the correct ancilliaries , tinwear, FI etc.
I recently helped a mate source a type 4 engine for his aircooled T25.....complete runner, with all ancilliaries inc all the tinwear for £450. It was listed on ebay! Be patient...they are out there!
@monkeyvanwestybike Supertramp Wasn't it? lives in north Manchester Met him before he went that trip was amazing..... and yes your right. wrong again
^^^^ THIS My 2l went pop a few years ago. I weighed up the options, but knew I was gonna have to stick with air-cooled (personal choice) although Subaru may have been a consideration. I wanted the van back quickly and so went with the recon and had the van back on the road within 2 months and at a total cost of about £2.5k which included fitting. I got the engine as a turnkey from: http://www.thevwenginecompany.com/our-prices.html My local garage dropped the old engine out of my van, which was sent as part of the turnkey service to VWEC in London where they remove the ancillaries, clean them up and transfer them to a recon engine that they have built and return it to the garage for installation all within around a fortnight.
If it's top end it's really not too bad a job, weekend if your lucky.. id never built an engine before myself but managed a total bearing and all job using 'tinterweb and here... Sent from my Hudl 2 using Tapatalk
I took a chance and got a recon 1600 for £800 cash. Touch wood it's a beauty and I've had 5 good years with it. "You takes your chance" though
Most garages don't want to know and will just say needs new engine as they don't want to get involved ... get a second opinion ... people bang on about change to Subaru or go type 1 or whatever ...your cheapest option is to repair yours ...
