  1. It might not be of interest to you but when our first sprog came along I adapted our walkthrough to fit a genuine Type 2 2 seater bench - I researched it a bit on The Samba, found some photos of the pukka adapter brackets and fabricated a set myself out of standard steel tube and a bit of mild steel plate. The only thing I bought was the special panel that fits between the bulkheads (a bit like the one shown in a post above but it was the genuine part). I am willing to post up some photos - they are still fitted in our bus at the moment but shortly to come out since the kids are both too big (but too small ...at this stage) to be in the front so they are both going on the back bench this year ....... the next problem is how to fit a 3-point belt on a 3/4 bench (on the side against the cabinets), anyone ever done this??

  2. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

TCD - I'd be interested to see pictures please, I had no idea there was a pukka way of doing this and cobbled together what I had lying about.

  3. £100 - 200 for a bench seat? i would gladly trade a bench seat for a single seat if i were any closer to your island.

regarding 3 people up front. yes, you can fit 3 people there, but not on any long trips, and yes the middle passenger would have to mind her knees when you shift.

  4. I need to do this seat belt thing , if you find out please let me know
    Ill do the same
    Thanks

  9. Sorry for not replying sooner. I will dig out the reference photos I took off TS, they will give you a good idea.

I did make one balls-up when I fabbed my versions, I put the plate that mounts the RH seat 'hook' about an inch out of place side to side so had to get hold of another LH seat 'hook' to remedy the situation - doh. Other than that, it works really well, however as stated previously, it will all be coming out now since sproglets are too small to be upfront with the grown-ups.

Not sure if I will hold onto the bench and brackets yet, if not they will appear on here first. Bench is late bay type, with Canyon Brown flat-weave covers; I seem to remember it had headrests fitted originally and the cover is a bit tatty however I have a lovely set of original covers of the same type but minus the head rest holes which is a bonus. Seat pads are originals and are very firm.

However, original covers are not to everyone's taste, I appreciate!

  10. I had a full bench up front and it was possible to fit a couple of young teenagers in (that's not like it sounds) but whoever was in the middle usually had to put their feet on the dash to stop me cracking their knees.
Handy for sleeping on in emergencies tho

  12. My goodness. Is that a contender for the furthest gone, brought back to life resto?
