  1. Where I can get a sheet of 12mm marine ply from that is the right size for a camper.... Want to try and use a single sheet, all i seem to be able to find is 2400 x 1200 and all I want is 1600 x 1600!

Am in Somerset but don't mind paying for delivery, driving to get it or whatever...

Never known of a sheet any other size than 8'x4'. Most people put the join under the furniture or the r&r bed. Let us know if you do source a big sheet. :)

you can buy 10x5 sheet, a good timber merchant near you should have it

  4. Tried TP and Snows, biggest the do is 8x4
Was hoping to avoid having a join! And having to buy two 8x4`s

Or would anyone like to suggest a good place to put the join, was thinking right down the centre line or even at the back of the van, hopefully hidden under the rear box seats
I just worry about the joint flexing and messing up the floor tiles...

  5. Buy two 8x4 sheets of 6mm and stagger the joints

  6. I had to scarph a joint to get a single sheet - use a goood quality epoxy resin and lap the joint by ratio of 10 to the thickness of the ply.

  7. TP are a glorified B&Q these days... My dad gets better and cheaper parts from our local agricultural supplier these days!!

You need to hunt the yellow pages for a proper timber merchant... unfortunately TP went round gobbling them up in the early 90s, and if they couldn't buy them, they put them out of business!! o_O

  8. Might try mole valley farmers....

  9. Asked my timber merchants this am, they said marine ply is only available in 8 x 4 but they/ you can get exterior grade ply in 10 x 5 sheets there price was £45 plus vat for 12 mm

  13. I seem to recall that my pal thought a figure of roughly 100 pounds was what a piece big enough for the floor is likely to cost:(

  14. Sounds about right, similar price for two eight by fours, but no need to make a join...

  15. I just sent my pal an email, hope he might pick up this evening, otherwise I will give him a ring.

  16. I spoke to my mate this morning....and here is what he said:-
contact Devon Hardwoods Ltd, near Exeter (Google them)
What you want is 12mm "Bruynzeel" brand Marine ply, Grade A1
Bad news that it seems the max size for all ply is 8x4, so we will have to practice our woodwork skills doing a scarf joint.
Hope this helps, let me know how you get on.

  17. Managed to have a word with a local chippie, he is going to get me a piece of 8x4 and then cut and join it, with a tongue and grove type joint....
Thanks for all the help and ideas... Who would have thought it so difficult to get a piece of wood the right size!

  18. Maximum size for marine ply is 8 x 4, as i said earlier you can get Exterior grade in 10 x 5,s, they had a sheet sat there :)
