As a lad growing up on the middle of a typical housing estate with the surroundings being The Pit, the pig farm the local mental hospital the pop factory the wasn't much choice in future education or work options . I had one brief careers talk before I went from infants to the high school and I said I wanted to own a shop . As a result I was given French lessons as an option ? I didn't know what a university was let alone attend one. But I can't complain I got 8 GCSE. I did run market stall I got a few jobs where I worked with my hands and at around 50 I got my cert ed qualifications but bugger it all im retired now having decided there's no future in working . Ironically yesterday on her 33rd birthday my daughter handed in her university disitation. This video speaks volumes on education https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10156227184324751&id=774974750&sfnsn=mo
The video is about the American education system, the one that is well known to be poor by most measurable standards. The British education system has its challenges for sure but in the last 35 years the subjects taught have expanded, specialists schools have grown and higher education has a high diversity of courses and access routes....general education less so but not as chronic as that video. As for teaching people to work in factories....what factory has desks lined up in rows (even offices don't tend to have that)? A lot of general education is teaching kids how to fit in, work to another organisations rules (not your families). Does it fit all, no....that's what higher education or the freedom to leave school and follow your own path does. A generation being told they haven't thrived because a fully fitted education for them wasn't given to them is no good for anyone concerned.
We like to hear him squawk. We like to hear him squeak. We like to see him biting fingers with his horny beak...
I agree with your comments mostly. However in the field I taught in it was very much talk and chalk (or dry wipe board) .where creativity was stiffled and frowned upon. In fact when I moved on I quoted a term used by the artist Banksy " I hope I am moving onto a place where they no longer look up at aeroplanes" a sarcastic comment to the practices from many years ago that were still employed today very much to the sentiment of the video
This Video for me is a better view on the education system, it Americam but parallels here. We reference the RSA Animate videos as much as Ted talk at work. This one too is good.
Good thanks baz, how about you? Business ok at the mo, bit of a slow down due to less mot/servicing work, but still got lots of resto stuff
