As I have seen the same questions dozens of times before & I tend to glaze over in Mech/Tech. I restrain myself from saying "Use the damned Search function you lazy sod" especially if it's not a new member asking the question.
It's not my thing looking at alternative engines etc, fine if you like that sort of thing but it isn't for me these days.

  3. The thing with search is that if for instance you type in "Oil" it produces no returns as its too frequent a word in the forum. And if every issue was discussed once there would be no new additional knowledge added. We would all be using monograde oil and points/condensor as no-one would have asked any new questions since frums were invented.;)

  4. Yes. I do use search engines and it usually brings me back to here. I like the sub forums as I don't need to spend a lot of time trawling around to find the answers I want.

  5. We do though so be a nice chap and give us a sub section in mech tech
    :)

To be fair the only impolite answers you got were clearly tongue in cheek....
It's got nothing to do with who you are....

I'll stick with my response from your thread: imho its unnecessary.

I disagree. Mech/tech gets used primarily when things go wrong and it would be good to have a sub-forum for trying to make things go better. It's all the rage as you should know! When I tagged on the end of 300 splitties, I watched them go by and 95 out of 100 had fat engines. Bays will surely follow. They're expensive vehicles and they don't go fast enough. :)

  9. Nooooo its the beginning of the end, T4s and dinner/dogs menus, dog ailments and suchlike will follow close behind  Then its the Silence of Doom

  10. That's a fair point and I wasn't having a dig at you..
I guess I find it hard to understand why anyone would object to information being available to all that were interested.

 What's up with tarting up your air-cooled? The saburu few hang out on a thread, but most of the rest of us, at least secretly, would like a bit more oomph. It's all about the smiles per miles journey isn't much to hang onto for 300 miles at 55mph up the A1 annoying the lorries.

The risk is that people who may well know the answer won't look in a new section.

  13. Was that coming up to mine with your old engine:lol:

Fair enough. I bet a lot don't though.
Do what you want, I'm not going to lose sleep over a new section being created, Ijust don't think its necessary.

  18. @dog @hailfrank @Birdy

88.6% for with over 40% wanting to see a water and aircooled section, so, how's about it - its only a sub-menu after all...

and all those worrying that it will turn into a T4 builders van forum, "sell my bay and buy a T4? I'd sooner have Africanised bees shoved where the sun don't shine"
    :)
