Dispel the Myth About Bus Reliabilty

  1. Had ours 9 years - beforehand according to her file she had at least. three engines before 8ok with previous owners - now on twice that with a Green Popper in our ownership , regularly serviced and still as strong as it good be for a bogo standard 1600. No probs whatsoever and that includes many a long jaunt - more planned . Stick a big Subo out 2000 problems a begin. Not knocking it - I've down many transplants beforehand mostly in Mini's. ( 1750 Maxi Engine ) and Rear wheel drive V 8 Escorts but I have learnt that of you want to get home save and sound ! Perhaps I'm getting .. Subo still sounds interesting though!

  2. My bus, box standard 1.6 pulls and drives like it should and always starts first turn of the key after being stud for months on end. They were built to do hard work.
I keep hearing TLBers going down the subo road and I think umm they do look good. But money and the fact remains my engine is doing what it should do.

My first van blew a pot at 100k from New. Buy got a new pot and carried on for another 17000 miles. It was regularly serviced and driven properly. My wife's cousin had the same year van and model from New and has 2 engines by 130k.

  4. Get them as they should be and they are strong reliable workhorses

  5. in my humble opinion what makes vw's is that they are vw.s. whilst i am still a newby to them i cannot understand the thinking behind Hybriding them. porsche maybe but Jappo!!!! Buy a mazda bongo and slip in a scuby if you to want but leave the vw.s alone

  6. I
I agree but I do have a 2l FI that has hydraulic lifters so quiet. Drives like a modern small car apart from the fuel consumption.

  7. I have an prototype bay as well with a porsche engine in it, but at least it's air cooled and really only a VW on steroids so that's ok ?

  8. Bloody predictive text
Should read An prototype bay with a porsche engine

  17. Mine should've had the 2.0 air motor but the P/O junked it for a Scooby lump - I bought it with the one condition that the Scooby lump was removed, since had a Golf 1.9TDi put in.
Not the original engine but still VW reliability (I hope).

  18. Hijack warning !!!
Whilst on the subject of predictive texts, I'm sure members on here must have a few stories any chance of hearing any, I have a few but the content may get censored lol

I've got a story for you:
I ripped out my stock 1600 and put a scooby EJ20 in. Its brilliant.
If you're VW obsessive, fair enough. I couldnt care less about the brand; I wanted a fun, usable, reliable bus that doesnt need servicing twice a year.
    I've got one.
(For the record, I used my bus as god intended for about 8 years with no issues whatsoever so I'm not anti stock. I just prefer mine)
    :)
