i just bought two from the usa. paid less shipping than bus ok for both. i'm reading now though that i might not need one for the 2.0 tin. when they arrive i'll post up here if they fit mine or not.

second one is for @Marty SmartyCat - if i find i don't actually need one then @iblaze you can have first dibs on the other one if you want?

mines 78 so might not need one. i'll see if if fits or not when it arrives from the US

 

Interesting; my '77 has one. According to the samba it wont fit a '78 but parts sellers think it fits up to '79.

Mine is a bitsa but I looked today - no grommet and definitely no space to fit one.

 

Does it need a grommet?

 

I've no idea, mate. I'm new to type 4 engines
It did have silicone around the hole, though.

It appears '78 MY was when the grommet was deleted. '77 needs one so if you have one spare I'll buy it.

Way to big because those tins didn't have a dipstick grommet at all, I thought that was cleared up earlier in the thread?

 

yes, but only after i'd bought..

not a problem though as they are both now accounted for
