Devon rock n roll bed question

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by paradox, Apr 24, 2013.

  1. Ive a metal framed 3/4 width rock and roll bed to go in my bus
Im told it originally came out of a devon camper

One arm of the bed looks as if it mounts to the seatbelt anchor point on the wheel arch whilst the other arm mounts on the panel above the sloping panel
Its the panel the fuel tank sits behind
Then the front frame of the bed obviously fastens to the floor through the bottom of the frame

Pauls going to weld seat belt anchors into the factory posistions for me
However im unsure as to what devon did originally for the mount on the fuel tank panel

Did they pull the engine and fuel tank to fit a plate with a captive nut or did they do somthing from inside the van like a rivnut or somthing?

  2. I have a devon eurovette 3/4 r&r bed. No idea if its original. Only seems to be attached to the wheel arch on one side and the box only on the other side. Just took some pics hopefully will help

  3. I took a 3/4 width out of mine - I assume it was the original Devon fitment. It was bolted through the seatbelt mounts (wheelarch and one of the centre ones, so should go in easy peasy if you have factory position mounts.

  4. I'll have to add something into the middle then if that's the case popester

Para's van was originally a panel, so no belt mounts in the back of the van!!

Lets hope Paul gets the mount in the right place. Just kidding, he's very good at getting such things right.

  6. It looks like im going to have to get the bed frame up to you paul

  7. Nah... I can put the centre ones in off measurements from the fish dude... not a major issue by any means

  8. looking at mine theres a plate welded on and the bolt goes through that, whats behind it I don't know

  9. :TTIWWP:

  10. Paul - ignore what I said about it using a seatbelt mount - it is a while since I whipped mine out and my brain is a bit fuddled o_O . Have just had another look and there are a couple of brackets with captive nuts as you will see in this piccie:

On my RHD, the bed bolted to the wheelarch seatbelt mount (definitely) and the left most bracket you can see in the picture. I can give you measurements to the hole centre if you need them.

paradox and Paul Weeding like this.
  11. I'm sure Paul welding right next to your fuel tank is absolutely nothing to worry about...;)

  12. I've welded on vans loads of times when they have a tank of fuel in them

I'll have a look at the fish tomorrow... pretty sure those tabs are another factory fitted thing

As we can see on Paras van, he has nothing

  13. Paul in that pic above
If you look to the right hand side of the bumper you will see two small screw holes that have been circled to indicate they need welding up

Well inbetween those two holes and a bit higher up there is a circle blob on the steel done with permanant marker

Thats where i marked roughly where the bed arm rests and it seems to tie in with the picture posted by popester above

  14. I see it!!

    Looks about right

The holes para marked to be welded tally with the missing brackets which are indeed factory to save you looking Paul.

  16. Too low to be those :)

  17. The holes circled are were a wooden batton had been screwed to the bus by a previous owner
The channel between them if you follow it up a little you will see a black circle
That was marked through the bolt hole of the bed arm whilst the kitchen unit was also fitted
However im not sure there was any floor fitted when i marked it

  18. Just looking at this thread but the pictures seem to be missing from this. would be interested in what they were

  19. Should be mounted using pukka VW points on the wheelarch and one of the captive mounting points on the sloping bit.
